Mark That Paper started with a stack of essays on a Sunday night and a simple observation: the feedback that actually improves writing — a mark per criterion, with the exact line that earned it — is the feedback teachers rarely have time to give thirty times over, and students almost never get on a draft.

The idea: rubric-anchored marking

Mark isn't a grammar checker or an essay generator. He does one thing: reads writing against the marking criteria you give him — an assessment notification, an ISMG, EE criteria, a uni rubric — and suggests a score per criterion with the quoted line as evidence. A score without evidence is just an opinion; Mark always shows his working.

Two sides, one line we don't cross

For teachers, Mark is a first-pass marker: he reads the whole class set, you confirm, nudge or overrule every score — you stay the marker of record. For students, he's draft feedback: what's working, what's costing marks, and how to fix it. In both cases the same line holds: Mark never writes a word for anyone. Mark was built in Sydney and works with criterion-referenced rubrics from anywhere — the kind used across the HSC, IB, A-Levels, AP and university, plus English tests like IELTS and TOEFL.
